Modelling our bust of Tschaikowsky, we primarily focused ourselves on photographs of the composer. Especially, in the second half of his life, when photography became more and more established, many pictures of him were taken. An additional orientation offered us the painting of Nikolay Kusnezow, which represents the composer in 1893 shortly before his death. But, we did not adapt the strict expression. Most of Tschaikowsky photos show him with a fairly neutral expression, as it was customary at that time. But his life was a constant up and down. At times, he suffered on depressions. And then, he again created the outstanding compositons of Romanticism known to us today. Therefore it was important for us to perpetuate a subtle "melancholy" in the look of the bust.

Spelling of the name: Tschaikowsky was a Russian composer, and therefore his name would be correctly represented in Cyrillic script. However, we decided for the transcription "Tschaikowsky" which is common in Germany and is used by the Tschaikowsky Society when approaching a broader readership. Tschaikowsky himself often used this spelling in letters to foreign contacts.
