Fontaneis considered an important representative of realism. In his novels, which were mainly written after his 60th birthday, Fontane characterizes his figures by precisely describing their appearance, their surroundings and, above all, their manner of speaking from a critical, loving distance. It is typical to present a cultivated conversation in a closed circle (also known as a causerie), for example at a banquet - the people follow social conventions and yet reveal their true interests, often against their will. Fontane often comes from a criticism of individuals to an implicit social criticism.
When modeling the Fontane bust, we used several photographs and a painting, all of which show Fontane at a later age. Due to the fact that he wrote most of his novels after the age of 60, we portrayed him in these late years.Fontane wears good, neat clothes on all pictures. A slight contrast to this is his mostly long hair and the mustache that covers his lips in strands. Accordingly, we also implement this ?trademark? in the bust.
Theodor Fontane's facial expressions always show a certain calm in old photographs. Unlike many of his contemporaries, he does not consider it necessary to express himself with a strict expression of his authority and expertise. Rather, his gaze remains neutral and observant, in keeping with the more objectively distant language in his novels.

Heinrich Theodor Fontane (* 30. Dezember 1819 in Neuruppin; ? 20. September 1898 in Berlin) was a German writer, journalist and critic.
