The genesis of the bust
There are numerous portraits of Paracelsus, whereas only the engravings of Augustin Hirsch were created during his lifetime. Recent oil paintings and graphics have been inspired by this or show the famous physician and scientist without reference to his actual appearance, as well as the probably most famous portrait, created by the Flemish painter Quentin Matsys, at least 50 years after Paracelsus death.
For us, the engravings of Augustin Hirschvogel were therefore the most important models in the creation of the bust because of their authenticity, although we slightly changed the facial expression.Paracelsus has struggled throughout his life against immense resistance to the prestige of his advanced medicine and the prevalent doctrines of the time. Therefore it seemed obvious to give him a more serious, purposeful expression.
Contemporary portraits were usually commissioned in order to emphasize and honor the person's reputation, abilities, or merits. Our busts are portraits of legendary personalities whose place in history has long been established, and at the same time an attempt to portray the person behind them. With Paracelsus, too, we have attached great importance to capture this dual meaning in the bust.

Paracelsus
1493 - 1541
Paracelsus, born Philippus Aureolus Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim, was a Swiss German Renaissance physician, botanist, alchemist, astrologer and general occultist. His most important legacy is his critique of the scholastic methods in medicine, science and theology, using observations of nature rather than looking to ancient texts.

This bust is the perfect gift for a doctor or pharmacist.
